WONDER WOMAN: Gal Gadot

Gal Gadot
WONDER WOMAN

Our August cover girl is Wonder Woman herself Gal Gadot. In this cover story we delve into the life of a female Superhero, being a role model for her daughter and how she got her big break in Hollywood.

Gal Gadot was born in Israel in 1985 and by the age of 18 she was crowned Miss Israel. As a beauty queen she competed in the 2004 Miss Universe pageant - the same year Aussie Angel Jennifer Hawkins was crowned as the winner.

Gal means "wave" in Hebrew and her life has been quite a roller coaster! From model to Miss Universe, military to motherhood, actress to action hero. Gadot is strong, sassy and stunning!

Throughout her career as a model Gal appeared in campaigns for Gucci fragrances, Erroca eyewear, Jaguar cars and Italian fashion brand Miss Sixty.

Gadot made her feature film debut in the 2009 action flick Fast & Furious as the badass Gisele Yashar. Her time in the military before modelling combined with her weapons knowledge helped Gadot land her breakout role as Gisele.

Gal: "I think the main reason was that the director Justin Lin really like that I was in the military and he wanted to use my knowledge of weapons."

The exotic beauty went onto star in two additional films from the fast saga; Fast Five and Fast & Furious 6.  She performed her own stunts in all three Fast films and even owns her own 2006 Black Ducati motorbike.

Gal: "There aren't enough good roles for strong women. I wish we had more female writers Most of the female characters you see in films today are "the poor heartbroken girl". That's why I am so proud of the Fast movies. I feel like Gisele is an empowering woman."

Gal really shot to fame when she was cast as the iconic DC Comics character Wonder Woman. She first appear in the role last year in the film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Gal: "You know Wonder Woman; she's amazing. I love everything that she represents and everything that she stands for. She's all about love and compassion and truth and justice and equality, and she's a whole lot of woman. For me, it was important that people can relate to her. In this movie you get a glimpse of who Wonder Woman is - she's being introduced into this DC Comics universe."

"It is so important for girls and boys to have a female, strong, superhero to look up to." - Gal Gadot

Gadot is perfect in the role as Diana Prince (aka Wonder Woman) and with the success of her first DC film, Batman v Superman she scored her own feature film Wonder Woman. This box office blockbuster raked in $821 million worldwide and catapulted Gal to Hollywood royalty. She was even invited to become a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences - known for the annual Academy Awards.

Gal: "And now I feel like I'm the luckiest girl in the world."

Gadget kicks butt as Wonder Woman. Her 2 years of service in the Israel Defence Force as a Combat Instructor gave her the skills to play such a strong and powerful character! Gal said she learned discipline and respect serving. She trained for her role with lessons in Swordmanship, Kung Fu, Kickboxing and Jiu-Jitsu. Gal was pregnant with her second child when she was filming Wonder Woman

Gal loved playing Wonder Woman because she had the opportunity to play "dress up" and transform into such a strong female empowered role, for her 4 year old daughter.

Gal: "It made me feel really good about playing Wonder Woman. Boys always had Batman and Superman and Spiderman etc. And girls has the princesses. And Now [they have Wonder Woman]. It is so important for girls and boys to have a female, strong, superhero to look up to."

Gal: "In real life I'm the type of girl who doesn't take herself too seriously. I'm very serious when it comes to work, but I like to make jokes and have a good laugh and make fun of myself."

Later this year Gal will reprise her career defining role and team up with Batman (Ben Affleck) to star in her third DC movie instalment; Justice League - out November 17th. This highly anticipated Warner Bros movie was filmed last year on location in London, Scotland, Iceland and Los Angeles.

In 2019 she will also return for the sequel Wonder Woman 2

Gal is an incredible actress, loving mother of two beautiful girls, inspiring woman and kick ass Superhero - we're convinced she is a real life Wonder Woman!
